Therapy with me is active, personalized, and collaborative and I will likely challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. At the beginning, we will spend some time understanding what brings you to therapy and identify patterns or habits that create distress for you. I’ll guide you to figure out what you need to feel like yourself again, and be more forgiving of your mistakes. Together, we will expand on your current self-care and coping skills to provide you with practical tools to help you deal with your current struggles and to prevent their future occurrence.
I want you to feel more in control again as quickly as possible and be kinder to yourself along the way. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, postpartum depression/postpartum anxiety (PPD/PPA), or health concerns, I’m here to help you get out of your head and start living more in line with what really matters to you.
I’m committed to using treatments that are considered best practice with strong research evidence backing their effectiveness and efficacy. I’m particularly inclined toward cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and acceptance-based approaches. These therapies have shown the best results for the concerns with which most of my clients are struggling, specifically anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjusting to medical concerns.
For your convenience and flexibility, I offer in-person appointments as well as safe and secure online therapy for residents of Texas.
I’m Dr. Kristin Calverley, a licensed psychologist in Houston, TX. I’m trained in the assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of psychological conditions in adults. My Ph.D. and pre-doctoral internship were in clinical psychology with an emphasis on health psychology. Both programs were accredited by the American Psychological Association and Canadian Psychological Association. Over the last ten years, I’ve worked in a variety of settings including acute care, psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation facilities, and private practice. Most recently, I worked as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center where I provided outpatient therapy, and supervised psychology students and interns. I also developed a new perinatal psychotherapy service for OB/GYN clinics, which provided much-needed services to pregnant and postpartum women.
Originally from Canada, I bring a wealth of worldly knowledge and clinical experience. In addition to being a psychologist, I’m a certified yoga teacher and have practiced yoga and meditation for over 20 years. In my free time, I’m often enjoying outdoor activities and spending time with loved ones. I am an active member of Postpartum Support International and the Houston Psychological Association.
